I discovered this political cartoon on the internet and found it packed full of read-able material. The most prominent sign that catches my eye is the smoking gun in the holster on George Bush's belt. The gun obviously signifies violence. I think the creator of this cartoon was criticizing Bush's foreign policies while he was in office. The fact that Bush has a gun as a toy signifies the love that Bush seemingly had for violence while in office. In the picture, Bush shot a hole through his foot, and doesn't even seem to notice. This is ironic, or perhaps intentionally done by the author, because of how little Bush seemed to care about the rising death toll from our wars in the Middle East.
The western-themed poster on the wall pays tribute to Bush's Texan background. Many people, including the author, probably do not view his Texas background as a positive. To northerners, Texans have a certain stereotype of being unsophisticated or stubborn, which many people describe Bush as.
The nurse dog with the box of Band-Aids implies that Bush has a lot of "boo-boos" to fix after his 8 years in office. The dog could stand for President Obama, in that he has to fix all the "boo-boos" that Bush made, and he has only Band-Aids to do it.
There are several things that make the subject (George Bush) look unintelligent. The fact that a grown man is playing on a rocking horse pretending to be a cowboy obviously emits that image. Bush's big ears make him look a little bit like a monkey. This theme of making Bush appear dumb is inter-textual, in that it is seen in just about every political cartoon that he is in.
