The scene starts out with a very serious tone; the doctors are monitoring his brain and he is going to be in his new avatar body for the first time. When Jake is woken up he is very curoius and excited, having no care at all for the doctors requests. He then proceeds to run out of the facility and go through a field of crops and meet his friend. His progression within his new body was visible in the matter of minutes the new scene lasted for.
This scene really appealed to me because while I was watching it I got a strange feeling of happiness due to the fact that Jake once again had a functioning body. It made the movie much more real to me and was one of the things that connected me to the character. It was the beginning of the transformation of Jake from human to Avatar. Throughout the movie we see Jake become more and more avatar, staying in their presence for increasing amounts of time and becoming more fond of their ways. Until he eventually makes the true transformation through his death and revival by the Mother tree. As Jake learns more and more about the Avatar people we become more and more attached to their lifestyle and ways. I felt that this scene was really the beginning of this fondness of these blue creatures.
I really liked how chaotic this scene was because it gave a sense of realness and signified Jakes desire to use his legs, not even waiting for his chords to be unattached. As a viewer it really pulled me to see the opportunity Jake has to once again walk, much like in other movies when a character has overcome a great challenge and earned a type of freedom. This is the start of many challenges that Jake has to overcome but was the basis for my attachment and hope for Jake to make it in the Avatar world. So this can be read two ways by the viewer, one as Jakes irresponsibility, but the other and the one I personally got was a sense of hope and opportunity for Jake.

ReplyDeleteI liked that scene too. When I first saw him running, I could guess that Jake is going to stay there because he looked so wild and natural(he got her legs back!). I was very excited. And I completely agree with your two points. And the sense of hope and opportunity for Jake won the sense responsibility in Jake in this case.
