Date by the Lake

Summers in the cities are arguably the best thing a romantic could ever ask for. This is my favorite spot in the entire state of Minnesota. This is a picture of the Lake Harriet band shell, located in south Minneapolis, on a perfect sunny summer day. I have found this lake to be a constant place for dates between high school and middle school students hoping to fall deeply in love, or at least get an idea of what love is.

The atmosphere at the lake during the summer is ideal. On a sunny 75-80 degree day the walking paths are bustling with people holding hands, the ladies are tanning their selves on the beach as the men “gaze upon them” and the band shell is full of people getting snacks and watching ducks. The amount of people holding hands, or at least with the opposite sex, is almost obviously the majority. Why this seems to be the case is neither obvious nor hard to imagine.

The first reason I find it nice for dates is the obvious wonderful scenery surrounding the lake and walking paths. Some things that help this wonderful ambiance are the rose garden, rock garden and bird sanctuary. These attractions are nice because not only do they give visual pleasure but they also give couples a little alone time for more private activities.

The rock garden is pretty much what it sounds like; it has artistic rock formations including small ponds and little waterfalls. The rose garden is a fenced in area with rows and rows of flowers with their names and each and every color resembling a big box of crayons. Finally there is the lake and the walking trails; the lake is a perfect circle with a view of the Minneapolis skyline peeping over the trees on the horizon. The mixture of these private places and wonderful views makes it wonderful for dates!Summers in the cities are arguably the best thing a romantic could ever ask for.
